1815: Op het einde van de 18de eeuw doofde het enthousiasme voor het Achels postbedrijf uit. Dit had ook te maken van de verminderde postactiviteiten in Maaseik, waar Achel een goede verbinding mee had. Het ergste voor Achel moest nog komen: de Franse Revolutie. In die periode trok Hamont de post weer naar zich toe. In 1814 had J.M. Koeckhofs er alles voor gedaan om het poststation weer naar Achel te kunnen omhuizen. De toenmalige maire van Achel, de Leonardts schreef daarvoor in 1815 een uitvoerig geargumenteerde brief naar de generale postmeester. Helaas bleek uit het antwoord dat vooral de 50 mobiele kooplieden of teuten uit Hamont meer gewicht in de weegschaal konden leggen dan een handvol teuten die Achel daar tegenover kon stellen Hamont kreeg dan weer een eigen postkantoor.
